Stop picking up the stories

Thank you for making me laugh last week, Shilpa Jamieson,  with your post and the letter below:

**Dear Parent

During the month of December, amongst other things we will be assessing: your memory, budgeting, baking, seat-grabbing, relationship maintaining, present-buying, whatsapp responding, craft-making and logistic skills.
Each one will be assessed at least 4x a day and by the way we will retain the right to change the boundaries on a weekly basis. Goooood luck!!**

For many years I’ve compared myself to others and scored pretty low on most of those categories but I think it’s safe to say, I give less f*cks about it nowadays; preferring to prioritise “relationship-maintaining” in line with my values and letting the other stuff just be good enough…or non-existent.  Choosing to no longer feel like I’m failing against a set of expectations I’m not really interested in meeting.

But I noticed the familiar feelings of annoyance and resistance to the dreaded month of December creeping in again, as they do every year towards the end of November.

The familiar distaste of the materialist consumerism and the conditioning to buy “stuff” that we don’t really need and in some cases, don’t want.  The pressure to cram a whole load of extra pressure and expectations into our already information over-loaded, 24/7 fast-paced lives missing the point that Christmas should be about peace and love, as I see it.

But this post isn’t a Bah-Humbug anti-Christmas post; there is actually a whole load of things I love about Christmas.

It’s about repeating patterns and the stories we tell ourselves.  The stories that we repeatedly tell ourselves, and invite into our energy field, that keep us in fear-based, low-vibrational frequencies.  Low vibrational frequencies that attract more of that into our lives, according to the Law of Attraction.

My familiar narrative at this time of year is along the lines of “I can’t afford Christmas”, “money seems to be flowing out of my bank account faster than it’s flowing in”, “I don’t want to spend money on things that people don’t really need”….and the list goes on.

A familiar narrative of fear-based and scarcity-based thoughts, all coming from a “lack” state of mind.

So my awareness that I had, once again, picked up this story and invited it into my energy field was the kick up the bum I needed to start to change it and start to re-programme my body and it’s familiar reaction to this time of year.

Positive thinking on it’s own doesn’t work.  We can consciously think one way but the feelings and the memory reside in our body.   Feelings and emotions are a chemical record of past experiences.  When we keep re-living old experiences or having the same thoughts about experiences the body thinks it’s reexperiencing them in the present.

So we have to BE who we want to be, as if we’ve already achieved it.  We have to feel the way we want to feel as if we’re already experiencing that feeling.  We have to align with the vibrational frequency of how we want to feel.

Using all your senses to consistently mentally rehearse what you’ll be thinking, feeling, seeing, hearing, tasting and touching in your desired outcome (combining a clear intention with an elevated emotion) changes your energy, your brain chemistry and your genetic expression so your body believes it is living in that future reality.  Dr Joe Dispenza’s “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” is a must-read if you’re keen to learn more about this.

So as we move into December I’m going to focus on feeling immensely grateful for all the special people in my life who bring me so much joy, and visualise and give thanks for all the special moments that we are going to share next year.

I’m going focus on feeling immense gratitude for all the amazing clients I’ve had the privilege of working with this year and visualise and give thanks for all people I’m going to support to live a heart-led and healthy life next year.

I’m going focus on feeling immense pride for my children and how each of them has grown throughout the year in carving out their unique path in life, and I’m going to visualise and give thanks for the growth and happiness they are each going to experience next year.

What story do you keep picking up that you want to change?
